Stuff and Nonsense

Cetti's Warbler #35

What another glorious day. We headed over to the Wirral peninsula and started our morning at RSPB Burton Mere. It was lovely just walking in the sunshine listening to the birdsong - mainly from Chiffchaffs and Cetti's Warblers. The Cetti's are so loud, but by the time you have located the direction of the sound, it's moved on. Seeing them usually proves very difficult, but we were very lucky to be able to see this one in amongst the trees. I fired off a few shots and only one of them was vaguely in focus and this is it. I know it's not a great shot, but it will probably be the only time we actually get to see one, so I'm taking the opportunity to add it to my list now.
We were too late for the high tide at Parkgate and it was ridiculously busy anyway, so we moved on to Leasowe lighthouse and did a short walk there instead. Lots of curlew were on the back field and we saw a couple of distant wheatears on the paddock amongst the daisies which was nice. We've not seen one of these since June 2019 on Skomer.
Our annual list of birds seen so far has now climbed to 82 with 10 added in the last week.
