Sporophytes

I had a slow wander round Swaddywell Pit on Good Friday afternoon and rather appropriately spotted my first flowering Good Friday Grass, also known as Field Woodrush. Lots of other interesting finds including plenty of Man Orchid rosettes, some fine sporophytes of a Bryum moss, the emerging leaves and catkins of Silver Birch, catkins of Goat Willow, sheets of Hairy Violet and three species of flowering Dandelion, including Winged Dandelion Taraxacum ochrochlorum, a species that has never been recorded from eastern England, having a mostly northern and western distribution. The other two species are more widespread but were still the 1st and 2nd records for VC32 mostly because very few people have ever recorded dandelions there!
