Stocksbridge

This is a view of Stocksbridge. The large factory in the centre is the steel works, only a small part is still in use and that is currently under threat because the finance company that supports it has gone into financial administration. The towns existence comes from steel and again many people's jobs are under threat, whilst the political implications and scandals for the government are only just beginning. The main road to the right leads to the Woodhead Pass over the Pennines to Lancashire and and Manchester. The image was taken from above Wharncliffe Edge, where there the remains of earthworks going back to stone and iron ages.
A little warmer today but the wind is only a little weaker and still cold.
