Trapped

Even as new growth begins to show after recent rains, a few of last years leaves still hang around, here, trapped in the sprouts around the base of an ash tree.

I loved the texture of the leaf and how the veins stand out in this close up shot, helped by dull evening light and cloudy skies overhead.

I wanted to push all the surrounding mess into the background and tried a few different aperture settings to get as much of the leaf in focus as possible, yet keep the remainder of the image soft. Light tones in the leaf against a darker tree helped in that regard, which I encouraged somewhat when editing. A pleasing result.
