Stuff and Nonsense

Rook #42

Today we went to Frodsham Marshes for the first time, even though it is only around 10 miles away. We were given some great directions by kwchas and did the 4 mile circular route he suggested. We arrived at around 9:30am and did not see anyone else until nearly midday, although we did add 6 new birds to our annual list and saw a total of 44 birds. In the first half mile I was stopping at almost every tree as there were lots of birds about, but after we turned the corner past the model flying school it got a little quieter until we reached the pools. There were a nice variety of birds on the pools and we managed to find the solitary black necked grebe after being given some directions from another couple.

I really wanted to blip a blackcap today as we saw a few, but it was not to be. And so as not to copy kwchas, I have added my black tailed godwits in extras along with a snipe that was trying to hide in the pool edges, but I just managed to catch him.

This is the first time we have really seen rooks this close and I was amazed at how huge their beaks are - they can do some damage with that!

It was after 1pm when we got back to the car, and we thoroughly enjoyed the morning - great birds and just perfect weather. We will definitely be going again.
