An early morning in town

Actually, it wasn't what most people would consider early - I had to be at the dentist for 09:30 - but for me, who has always been a slow starter in the mornings, this is early. However, having got in and been checked over by the dentist it felt good to be wandering around early in the day, enjoying the bright sun.
These warehouses, built in 1910 and 11, are now completely converted to offices and apartments, but they are still rather stately buildings.  There are similar warehouses in Sundsvall, converted into a cultural centre, a library, museum, and art gallery.
The warehouses were built because anything not produced locally had to be bought in by sea in those days, and the sea was frozen for 4 or 5 months every winter. So the warehouses had to be filled in the autumn with everything needed to get the town through the winter, until sometime in April, when boats could once more sail in.
It was only when the railway arrived in 1925 that it became possible to move goods in, even in winter.
I needed to be home for a 12 o’clock zoom meeting so I wandered in town for a short while, did a little shopping, and then headed back. Later in the day Jan and I went for a walk in the sun, sat on our veranda drinking red wine and watched a film in the evening, but Jan has written about all that on her blip.
This is a backblip. Today's image will be going up shortly.
