Treat Day

The children have been so good of late and with a small, but welcome Easter bonus burning a hole in my pocket, we took a walk into an OPEN Kendal to buy some toys.

Predictably, m’boy spent his allocation on Hot Wheels cars, whilst The Youngest went for some big, pink marshmallowy cuddly toy thing, which The Eldest assures me are all the rage.

I was baffled, but they seemed happy enough. I have no idea where The Eldest directed her spoils, but again, she seemed happy. For anyone raising or who has raised a teen, you will know that this is no mean feat.

We popped into Sports Direct for some new kicks for the lad, and with the arrogance of Mike Ashley cascading down into the Kendal store, minimal effort had been made to enable any form of social distancing, with shoppers required to be in perpetual motion and hopping around like cats on a hot tin roof to ensure the absence of contact.

The highlight of the day for me was m’boy requesting to go out on a 5k jog. We donned our running gear, he laughed as I stretched to warm up (a necessity for “a man of my age”) and we set off. It was an absolute delight. I followed his pace and to give the lad his due, there were only a couple of sections where he needed to slow his run to a walk. Strava told us that we’d got round 5.29km in 35mins, which isn’t bad for his little legs. Little bugger didn’t even break a sweat…

With Kendal heaving and The Lakes no doubt full to bursting, we opted to spend the remainder of the day pootling about in a sunshine drenched back yard before rounding off with our customary Saturday night chippy tea and a game of Yahtzee!

HappyD.
