The Muscovy Duck

I last saw this duck in July last year, which is when I'm pretty sure it was the last time I'd been to Charnwood Water. Like last year, we haven't had rain for weeks and the ground was baked dry. Surely there will be rain in May? None in the forecast.

We all went this afternoon as the cloud cleared sufficiently for warm sunshine to break through.

The  margins of the pool have been trimmed and tidied. Previously it could be well nigh impossible to get a good view across the water.

I only saw one swan and one pair of Canada Geese and few ducks and coots. On the other hand, the greylag geese have multiplied profusely. I'm pretty sure it was the father of the clan that was aggressively chasing the others. They were probably his children and he had decided they should move on.

One pair of geese were leading a convoy of six goslings. Mum at the rear and a proud Dad in front.

About two thirds of the way round, we peeled off and went to see Gill for a cup of tea. She and Geoffrey live close nearby. It was very relaxing in their suntrap in the garden. We all spent a very chilled hour together, chatting.
