Upside Down Woodpecker

Panshanger Park is on the edge of town and the bluebell wood that I have been in the habit of visiting is on the side nearest to the built-up area. However, up to now there has been a big empty field between the wood and the houses. Once amongst the trees it was easy to imagine that one was in the heart of the countryside. Not any more. :( A huge new housing development is being built right up to the edge of the wood. (Extras)

It was lovely to see the bluebells, I think it will be a couple of weeks before they are at peak perfection. As we were walking I heard a woodpecker drumming and then a piece of bark landed at my feet. I don't think I've seen one completely upside down before.
