Florida horse country

Saturday
We got a fairly early start this morning, so we had time to get packed up and do a bit of a clean-up, before checking out of our apartment at 10 am. We enjoyed our final breakfast, sitting on the balcony, looking out over the beach and the sea, and listening to the waves breaking on the shore. Today, we were just heading further north in Florida, taking a slight detour in the early afternoon, to explore Ocala/Marion County, which is Florida’s Horse country. They claim to be the “horse capital of the world”, though I suspect that Lexington Kentucky might dispute that! Our drive took us past impressive gateways, pastures lined with wooden rail fences, with handsome horses grazing under stately oak trees draped with Spanish Moss. A beautiful side of Florida which was new to us. We then continued our journey, and reached our hotel in northwestern Florida about 6 pm.
