Still here

Birkrigg, Birkrigg Common, Bardsea (round about nine stones!)

This is one of my favourite stone circles. The stones have been heavily weathered, some are only just visible above the ground, but it is not difficult to imagine it as it was - an inner and an outer circle of tall columns of white stone all paved throughout with cobbles brought from afar. A very impressive sight it must have been on this, the highest point in a region of low limestone hills, and with a fine view of the sea, the Ulverston estuary. Whether it was a meeting place, a ceremonial centre, who knows, but it was certainly planned and carefully constructed whatever its purpose. What I also like is that one just comes across it. There is no sign, no fence round it, walkers just stumble upon it - it is part of the landscape, as it should be.

After thousands of years, it is still here.

And after a mere nine years, I am still here

Blipfoto is part of my life. I am still selecting a photo a day and posting that photo on the day and can’t think of a reason to stop now. It has become a record of the bits and pieces of my life, which this year of all years has become so valuable.

So, thanks to everyone who keeps this wonderful little world going and thanks to everyone who makes the place so special.

Time goes by
One of my favourite blips from long ago - the little one is now nine years old and in full control of our Zoom meetings. Her sister is in the middle of selecting her GCSEs!
