Maimai at sunset

After a pretty drab start, the day turned nice in the afternoon, which in turn presented a lovely clear sky for this evening's sunset shot.

Maimais (a local term for shooting blinds) are now starting to be prepared in advance of the duck shooting season which starts on the first Saturday in May. As lake levels are still extremely low, it's a great time to hunters to get out on to the lake bed to prepare their shooting platforms and camouflage them accordingly.

As I was setting up the tripod I also noticed that my actions were being carefully considered by a group of Royal spoonbills some 50m away. I'll come back a grab a shot (pictorial that is) of those guys some other time...
