Moving: Day 1

When I mentioned once that I’d really like a kitchen island, this wasn’t what I had in mind.

A reasonably successful first day moving in.  The removers couldn’t get the first sofa up the stairs (ironically, not the one we’d worried about) so they tried to haul it up and through the window without success.  They had all but given up and we had nearly resigned ourselves to buying new furniture when they had one final attempt to go up the stairs, this time taking off the protective paper wrapping.  Success!  I was still concerned they might not get the other one up but they managed; a huge relief.  They have put furniture into the right rooms and the two sofas (minus their legs which are hopefully in one of these boxes) look great.  They’re back again tomorrow but judging by what has been delivered so far a lot of things will be garden/shed items, with not so much for the house.  The stress was relieved late in the afternoon by a visit from some good friends who brought us a lovely house-warming present!

When we completed the purchase in mid-March the builders gave us a bottle of Champagne which we decided we would save until we actually moved in.  Tonight’s the night!
