Hyperion

Outside Impression

Outside today has been cold, wet and misty, but bright at times. Taken through the window, the large tree seen here is a sycamore. These trees were thought to have been either introduced here by the Romans or the Tudors (16th century). Most of the species of our common trees hava a rich folklore associated with them. The story that I think I like most about the sycamore, comes from ancient Egypt. In ancient egyptian mythology two of them, called the "sycamores of turquoise" stood at the eastern gate of heaven from which the sun emerged each morning. I am hoping that we will see the sun emerge again in the morning tomorrow!
