Galah

The drive to Margaret River today was uneventful but felt longer than usual as I was driving the Campervan rather than my Subaru. I have become spoilt with cruise control, comfortable seats and a great sound system in the Subaru and the 280kms pass easily. With the Campervan it is a different kind of drive. The sound system doesn't work and so I had headphones plugged into my iPhone and I selected my dance music playlist for the trip....enjoyed that.

The reason for the trip was to deliver to Peter and Claire a chest of drawers and two bedside tables from Ikea...ahhh the joy of assembling flat packs was ahead of us. We followed the instructions and managed to assemble them without a hitch but it is so time consuming. It is little wonder that the furniture is so cheap as the buyer does all the work.

It was great to see the family. Baby Ronnie is now 5 weeks old and is a settled baby...long may it last. The family have also settled into their new home which they are all enjoying. Also Claire's mum and step-dad (Ann and Keith) have been here for 5 weeks holiday, enjoying their grandchildren immensely and giving Claire a hand. Peter is in the middle of vintage with the white grapes being harvested and there is a couple of weeks breathing space before they start on the harvest of the red grapes. During the harvest period Peter is working 70 hours a week, working during the day with a couple of hours rest before starting again for the night harvest. He is a bit burnt out by the end of the season and it is good that it slows down for awhile to allow the mind and body to recuperate.

While at Peter's this afternoon he told me about the park just around the corner from home where the galahs come to roost in the evening. So an hour before sunset I went for a walk to check them out. There was quite a large flock of around 30 noisy birds gathered, taking flight whenever a car drove past. I enjoyed the walk, watching the birds and taking photos and returned to enjoy a lovely dinner that Peter had prepared for us.
