It should've been Club Climbing Sunday but the forecast looked rubbish, and one by one people dropped out until only Fi and I were left. I found a walk roughly halfway between us by searching on the OS app and we met at Tutbury.

It was a lovely walk, taking us past Tutbury Castle - which I wanted to see but the gates were closed - and then onwards past the vast Fauld Crater, details in the photo, past Hanbury and Draycott in the Clay and back to the cars.

The Fauld crater is full of trees now, see central photo, but Fi remembered seeing it much less vegetated as a child. I've just noticed that the photo of the memorial stone isn't very clear, but the 18 names at the top are those whose bodies were never found. A sobering thought.

The weather was amazing, hot and sunny, we both had too many clothes with us, and I was back early enough to do some washing, potter in the garden and finish off yesterday's bit of painting.
