Edlingham Castle

Excitement of the day was a trip in to Berwick, where MrM and I each had an optician's appointment. All very well organised, with very few people in the shop at any one time. Even so, it felt a bit strange to be in relatively close proximity to the optician and other staff! We each needed a new prescription and each chose two new pairs of glasses - a pair for distance and another for reading for MrM, and two pairs of varifocals for me (if you're blind as a bat without, it pays to have a spare pair), and left with much lighter wallets! Eeek!

Next stop was Alnwick, where MrM had planned to buy a fishing permit, but unfortunately the shop was closed. Then, finally, to the glazier's to pick up the glass for the kitchen door.

On the way home we passed Edlingham Castle, the riverside ruins of a manor house progressively fortified against the Scots during the 14th Century.
