EARLY BIRD GETS THE WORM

This is the American Robin (Turdus migratorius). Judging from Terry's pics of UK Robins, this one is 3 to 4 times it's size. Great hunters of earth worms and bugs in the lawn.....he's eyeballing one right now. I have much fun in the morning watching them have a tug-of-war with a worm that really doesn't want to be extracted from its hole in my lawn.

Each Spring, I set out grape jelly feeders for the orioles that come through here on their migration. My robins seem to have developed an affinity for grape jelly as well. So much so, that if an oriole is indulging and the robin is anywhere in sight......the robin will evict the oriole from the premises. Apparently, robins think like 2 year old humans when it comes to possessions....."What's mine is mine and what's yours is mine too."
