These plants are quite unusual really. They die right back in winter, and until a few weeks ago they were still covered up to protect them from the frosts. They have now started their annual growth spurt. Initially these cone structures with pink fingers appear which are rather fascinating. They will soon be over six feet tall with enormous fan shaped leaves that you can shelter under from the rain! I have blipped these plants in the Valley Gardens when they are much taller.
