Looks Good To Me

A Taste of Holland

This is the Dutch Village Mall, one of many Dutch-themed establishments in Lynden -- a small town 20 miles north, where about 50% of the residents are of Dutch heritage. The iconic Dutch Village Inn has rooms in a realistic windmill replica.

We went to Lynden this afternoon to see a play (The Legacy) in the cosy little Claire vg Thomas Theatre, visible at the far end of the mall. One of our friends was acting in the play and another friend directed it. The play was excellent.

Lynden is a very conservative town -- Cynthia and I wouldn't fit in very well. It's illegal to drink and dance in the same establishment, most businesses are closed on Sunday, and until recently, grocery stores voluntarily refrained from selling beer on Sunday. We enjoyed walking along the deserted main street before the play, and had a quick coffee and scone in the new Jansen Art Center.

I've posted a few more Lynden photos in my flickrstream.

Cynthia's take on the day is here.
