Hanging On By The Skin Of Its Teeth

Another horrible, cold and wet day. I can't believe that I've still to see my first green nettle weevil of the season. The stingers are usually smothered with mating pairs by now.

I had my work cut out hunting for bugs between the showers. No redeeming spells of sunshine today. I eventually found this wasp-like cuckoo bee asleep dangling by its mandibles. This is behaviour that has been noticed in Nomada bees. It can be seen in my image that it isn't grasping the grass with its legs or feet. It has a huge droplet on its back and a smaller one on its wings.
