Spinning rust

Another odd day, woke up all bright and sunny, but it's been grey and showery most of the day in the end. Did some more work on the old laptop today - it's actually quite nice now I've upgraded it and put Linux on it instead of Windows.

In the afternoon we went to the library and picked up another random sample of CDs and DVDs to work through, plus they had Asterix back, so picked up three of them too. After that we had a short stroll along the seafront - rather busy today and then finished the day with polenta chips and sausages.

Today's blip is a Hitachi 1TB HDD that I thought wasn't well, but it's currently having a backup session push through to it at the moment without a problem. Don't know what the problem with it was a before. It rather naked at the moment but seems okay where it is...!

At the moment I'm accumulating hard disks. The smaller ones are pretty much useless, and I usually erase them with dban and then give them away. These days anything under 1TB isn't even worth it, as your better off installing a SSD at that size as the performance difference is huge, and even branded SSD are pretty cheap these days... Over 1TB and they are useful as SSD at that capacity while wonderfully fast, are a bit on the expensive side! Sadly I don't have many large disks I'm not using... just the smaller ones!
