Yellow Iris

It is a banner year for the iris blooms, and here is one of the biggest ones. These rhizomes were gifted to me by a friend. I divided my irises two summers ago and sent her a few. She sent a bunch of hers to me a few weeks later. It was the great iris rhizome trade, conducted by surface mail.

Well, this year, they are really stunning. The blooms are so huge that they are all falling over, so I had to stake them out. Look at the lovely fuzz inside the bloom; it reminds me of the fuzz in an old man's ear.  ;-) Oh, and they smell very nice. They actually SMELL like LEMONS!

My soundtrack song for this pretty yellow bloom is this one: Donovan, with Mellow Yellow.
