En terrasse, encore

So today was another first-in-18-months: to the cinema to see a film on the big screen! We went to the Colisée in Carcassonne to see Mandibules, by the Belgian director Quentin Dupieux. Not a director I've come across before, and the plot sounded completely bonkers. Homeless loser Manu is asked by a friend to collect a briefcase from a stranger and deliver it to another stranger, for 500 euros. To do this he steals a car and then picks up a similarly dumb friend to help him. In the boot of the car, they find a fly the size of a collie, and it all degenerates from there as they decide to train it to do bank robberies "like a drone".

This review gives a good flavour, and you can watch the trailer too. It was completely loopy but very funny, with the two leads making wonderful buddies, rivalling each other in stupidity and ability to make every bad situation worse, while ultimately wriggling out of it. As for Covid safety, we didn't feel overly concerned because there was only one other person in there.

Thanks to curfew, it was a late afternoon show, so afterwards we walked along to the Place Carnot to have a beer. Again it was sunny, and would have been warm had it not been for the gusts of wind, so we didn't stay too long.

Earlier we'd been to S and T's for S's first table tennis match since he twanged his Achilles tendon months ago. He managed to win one game out of five, remarkable!
