Treacherous Steps

The water boiled, the little egret who had been tentatively stepping over the reeds here in the heart of Rutland - was consumed by the gator lurking in the water? NO ;) ?

The boiling was the trout very upset obviously by the egret trying to pick them off!

Into the hide at 4:00 in the dawn twilight with an alarm call at 3:00, it was incredibly exciting even tho' I've done it now many times.

There is an outside toilet at the trout farm but obviously if you go out of the hide you loose the osprey. All was going well till one of the guys needed it. The osprey had come in. It was sitting in the oak tree behind the hide. You have to be patient especially with new ...ish birds and I knew from yesterday that it would take time.  You know now  arrgh what the outcome was and how absolutely 'fed up' (not my thoughts there but am going with that), that he went out of the hide and the osprey was never seen again this morning. No .... actually as I drove out I saw him overhead. Six people in the hide + the time and money spent on that trip. Honestly the osprey may not actually have fished anyway but I was, in fish terminology, gutted.
