Far from home

With it being the final day of our adventure down South there were a few things that needed to be done before setting off.

The most important of these were visiting my mother in the charity shop where she volunteers on a Thursday morning. Matty was able to pick up amongst other things; yet another stuffed toy (a lightsaber wielding meerkat), m’boy a bargain pair of football boots and some Next shorts for me.

We also picked up some flowers as a thank-you for her before dashing back home to collect my father and take him out for lunch as a thank you for all he does for us. He will shortly be retiring and it is so good to see some of those workaday stresses and strains begin to leave him. The children’s suggestions for how he should spend his retirement were: drink more beer, spend more time in the hot tub and respond to messages quicker. I hope that he does what he said and spends more time in the garden - as you can see from this photo, there’s plenty of it to keep him occupied.

With a final splash in the hot tub under their belts, the car was packed and it was time to say good bye. It was a pretty good journey home and even a slow point due to a lane closure was made easier by a phone call from “Uncle” Garv, which enabled us to have a catch up and the children the chance to show off their rapping skills along with a brief Horrible Histories sing-a-long.

It was nice to get home and know that we still had one more day of our holiday to go!
