Heading further north

…from Roma to Carnarvon Gorge today. 240km along good roads with varied scenery from flat farmlands to the Central Highlands with high cliffs. There are many walks into the Gorge but we haven’t explored it yet.

The park here is fully booked and although there are lots of people around it’s peaceful and rather lovely under towering gums. Even took my jumper off but now it’s getting a bit cooler. We’ve had frosts the last two nights in Roma and were pleased we had the heater installed in the van. We were going shopping for supplies yesterday but they don’t open on a Sunday in Queensland. That was a surprise. We headed into Woolworths this morning before packing up the van and got some more fruit and some water ( the town water in Roma was yucky). We have 2x 95 litre water tanks under the van but don’t carry anymore than we need. We are economical and have competitions as to who can shower and wash hair in the least amount of water. We are down to about 8litres each.

There was even less traffic on the road today. Half of the vehicles must be Grey Nomads with their campers or Winnebago vehicles. We passed one small town called Injune and a school ( out in the bush with no other buildings in sight). We see few houses or animals as the properties are vast. The roads run through grazing country so there are cattle grids across the roads to stop the cattle roaming too far. I have added a Brahman in the extra collage. Very handsome beast.

Terrible internet connection here so replies and comments will be hard for a few days.
