Emerald to Marmor

We got off in good time to travel 307km to our next spot. Tonight we are at a farm stay about 30km south of Rockhampton which is a large city about half way up the coast of Qld. The scenery was not terribly attractive but there were some nice spots with views to the Dawson Mountain Range. Some tiny towns were called Comet, Dingo, Banana and the nicest looking was Duaringa. We aren’t sure how to pronounce the name.

There were a couple of power stations and many electric locomotives pulling really long coal wagons. I thought it was funny having electric coal trains.

Some funny comments from the trip….”do we turn right here?” “No not for another 185 Km.” There were only two changes in direction. Right at Rockhampton and right onto the farm road. That was in over 300k.

They had road signs saying to beware of fatigue. One said “Crash Zone next 197kilometres”.

Another one said to have trivia questions.
Next sign had a question
A few Km down the road was a hint
…and finally the answer.

We were passed by more Toyota Landcruisers than I have ever seen. Must be rich people living here. I’ve only seen about 1 x BMW, 1 x Audi and 1 Mercedes on the whole trip. I guess there are no dealers or service centres for them out here.

After spending two nights in a depressing dust bowl we have found a lovely farm to stay on for the next couple of nights. It’s well set up for up to 12 campers, green lawns and pretty scenery.
