Au marché

I'm not feeling terribly inspired photographically. So here's the market hall in Lagrasse, not deserted this time but being used for its primary purpose. It's not a large market but they are all local producers selling good quality food. It has the best cheese van of any market for miles around. I went there on the way back from Arquettes en Val, where I went to pick up our regular annual order of half a lamb (which is normally delivered to our door). It would have been a scenic drive if the weather hadn't been so dismal.

Last night we went to the theatre! First time since September. I did freak out slightly at the number of people there -- the most crowded indoor space I've been in since March 2020. But hey, we are double vaccinated, and given their age probably the vast majority of other people were too. It was nice to get out and bump into people we know.

The play was Laïka, by the Théâtre National de Bruxelles. We didn't know much about it, but we signed up because we've never seen a Belgian theatre company we didn't like. It was quite a tour de force, an hour and a half basically carried by one man, David Murgia (there was an accordionist too, but he had no lines). David talked non-stop and fast in a wild and poetic monologue featuring characters in an ordinary suburb -- homeless man, prostitute, old lady who's lost her marbles, striking warehouse workers ... there's a short taster here.

And then we drove home in the dark! Can't remember when I last did that. We got home with 10 minutes to spare before the 11 pm curfew. One reason we'd been glad to go out for the evening was because the Fête de la Musique was being celebrated directly outside our windows, with loud and awful bass-driven music. It was still going strong at this point, and -- shhh! -- some people may have stayed beyond the witching hour. But it was all wrapped up by 11:30, thank goodness.
