Highbeck Cottage, Crossthwaite

A very pleasant and largely uneventful drive from Northampton to our holiday cottage near Crossthwaite in the South Lakes.

We called in at Kirkby Lonsdale looking forward to lunch, as has become the tradition, at the Lunesdale Bakery only to find they hadn’t yet reopened. What a shock. We had to repair across the road to the Snooty Fox which, while good, was not not what we were looking forward to.

The cottage overlooks the Lyth Valley as this view shows. Very pleasant accommodation too, light, bright and well appointed.

The only downside was being disturbed at 1.30 this morning at the Travelodge in Northampton by rowdy guests returning to the room next to us. Loud talking continued and curious aroma of weed filtered into our room. It took three visits from the management to restore order.

Even odder was when we arrived we were followed in by two police officers who went to that room. Nothing to worry about they said! The manager apologised for the disruption and will provide an evoucher for our next stay.

We had the TV on loud this morning, strangely there was no sound at all from the adjacent room!

Thank you for all your good wishes for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. We’re going to give it a good go. I may not be commenting so much on journals over the next week or so.
