Parkwood Estate

Parkwood Estate, located in Oshawa Ontario, was the residence  of the late R.S (Samuel) McLaughlin, auto baron and the founder of General Motors of Canada. The McLaughlin family lived there from 1917-1972.
In 1989, Parkwood was designated a National Historic Site , open to visitors.

At the risk of sounding like a tourist brochure...I pass on this info...

The house was inspired by early 20th century Beaux-Arts design and the gardens by the English Arts and Crafts gardening movement. Today the gardens have been restored to represent how they appeared in the 1930's. Parkwood's beauty and history provide a popular backdrop for film work and professional photography...( and for amateur blippers!)

The house is not open for tours at the moment due to the COVID restrictions still in place, but the gardens including the outdoor tea room in the formal garden ( main blip)  have opened with the latest loosening of restrictions. I thought it was a good opportunity to spend some time there this morning enjoying the gardens and taking some photos. (extra) It was. Other than one other visitor - a woman relaxing on a bench in the wooded area, - the tea room staff setting up for lunch by the pool, and film crew setting up trailers in the parking area for a film shoot next week, I had the place all to myself. It was lovely. I intend to go back soon armed wth a reservation for lunch; it has been years since I have done that.
