We made it to Housesteads today. And it was gorgeous!!
We booked tickets for 2pm so we could have a relaxing morning doing nothing. Lovely!
It's been another roasting hot day - so different to the last time we were there! A bit too hot walking up if I'm honest but rather that than a freezing rainy day.
It was as fascinating as ever looking at the remnants of the fort - the baths, the grain stores. the plumbed toilets(!!), the barracks, the Commanders house, the underfloor heating. It's not hard to imagine the place heaving with people and horses!
And the views!! The fort is built on top of a hill and the views are incredible in all directions
See extras for Archimus Maxiumus, Black Dog of the North, taking it all in.
After a couple of hours we headed back down to Marshall and rather than spend a small fortune on ice creams in the shop I made everyone wait until we got to the supermarket at Hexham. Four Snickers ice creams for £1.50. Just saying!!
I also got some more BBQ bits, more Tunnocks teacakes, chocolate cereal for Miss E and lemonade for shandy. Just a few little essentials!
Then it was back to the campsite for our last night. It was beautiful sitting out in the evening sunshine again. It's idyllic! See extras.
