Sligachan

Top day, heading up to Skye. We stopped off a few times, including in the Dalwhinnie distillery shop (although nothing was purchased) and Eilean Donan castle (for a few snaps). After dropping our stuff at the hotel, having a bit of a potter on the shore line, and a drink on the terrace, we headed off in the car again, stopping off in Sligachan where we viewed the recently unveiled statues of the pioneering mountaineers Norman Collie and John MacKenzie, in lovely evening sunshine. A wander around Portree was followed by dinner at Dulse and Brose.

After L overheard some people talking about driving around the Trotternish peninsula, we thought we would follow suit as we thought it was a lovely evening. Not so fast. In fact, both the Old Man of Storr and the Quirang were shrouded in low cloud, which lent a particular air of unreality to the new incredibly large car parks that have been installed in both places, complete with pay and display machines. We passed on, descending out of the mist to Uig, and then heading south again in increasingly lovely light, through the endless northern twilight.
