Swim Time..at last!

The day didn't start out as a great day for swimming, or for anything else! The power had gone out last night around 10PM and did not come back on until noon today..14 hours of no electricity that extended well into a dreary dull and rainy day...certainly not a great day for doing anything outdoors; even the local wildlife knew enough to stay home.  No heron, no beaver..no turtles, no bears...nothing to go out and photograph. No blip ideas for indoors either. I kept hoping for a sunset.....but first the sun would have to come out and  that did not look promising..

As frustrating as they can be, power outages are just a part of cottage life and you eventually get used to them, but they can create some challenges. For example, no power today meant no internet with messaging or email, and no cell phone as to get a good signal here, we need a booster. Even the landline was out. In those cases, being alone on an island, you just hope no emergencies happen and you need to call for help. No TV either. No running, filtered water from the lake, so no shower, laundry or washing up. And of course,  no coffee, and no cooking of breakfast... but in a pinch we have a BBQ and for heat, a wood stove, neither of which I needed today. I did make good use of that Rainy Day Survival Kit  though. I started a new novel, knit away on a shawl, and drew a couple of sketches of my turtle friend from yesterday. So my day was not a total loss...

As predicted, the power came back on in time for lunch and then, surprise,  the sun came out, although briefly, and the wind died down. At last, after so many rainy days, it was time to sit on the dock, soak up some sun and go for a swim! Life is good.
