Reflect on this ...

Had a walk around the West End today. Wanted to see this new addition to the University of Glasgow. The McCune Smith Learning Hub. It replaced the "old" Maths Building beside the Boyd Orr. A fantastic building inside which will be a great addition to the University. Magnificent views over the University to the south of the city.

Who was McCune Smith? ...
James McCune Smith graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1837 and became the first African American to receive a medical degree. But when he applied for entry to several American universities he was refused admission on account of his race. The University of Glasgow stepped in and offered him a place, which he took up in 1832.

... and the building?
The £90.6 million James McCune Smith Learning Hub was opened in April 2021. It provides a state of the art learning and teaching facility with the capacity for more than 2,500 students and is the first building to be delivered through the University's Campus Development Programme.
Was fortunate enough to get access to the building as it just opened to the public last week.
