a lifetime burning

Heebie Jeebies

The Hebe in the front garden is in full flower and is absolutely covered in insects at the moment.  As a result I spent a happy half an hour taking shots of small six legged things with wings, the vast majority of which are bees of one sort or another.

Despite all the shots of the bumblebees I rather like this shiny green chromatic fly with its contrasting red eyes.  I managed to get shots of him from several angles.  I think he couldn't believe his bad luck being the centre of the photographer's attention, despite all the bees.  I know that this is perhaps the least adventurous angle, but it is my favourite composition and you get to see the eyes, the carapace and the wing detail.
