Anatomy

LH and I scrambled down to this old pier and it's associated fishing hut. Both are beautifully built. The hut has a lovely, curving back wall with a winch coming through a purpose built window(?). The old ridge pole is mostly buried under vegetation with piles of stone roof slates collapsed on top. To one side are the steps down to the beach. The old pier was also a testament to masterly stonework with stones set on edge and cemented together.

We walked further along the coast path and past the concrete WW2 gun emplacement remains (extra). Brutal and efficient buildings but nature still beautified them with fading banks of thrift and breeding fulmars (only one chick to be seen but quite a few other pairs brooding). More black guillemots floating around on a very calm, misty sea than we recall from previous years and plenty of terns (Arctic or common, not sure) who weren't particularly pleased to see us.

We collected some pots of herbs which we're looking after while friends go on holiday and then it's been housework and packing for me, new grassy area prep and seeding for him.

Oh, and I'm (sort of) watching The Football but honestly, not especially bothered. LH, LD and D are much more interested!!
