A paragon of utility

Wide Wednesday: A paragon of utility

Was it just 3 years ago that these YoBikes arrived across the county?  It seemed almost as though one evening they weren't there, and then as if by magic they were everywhere the next morning.  While potentially a good idea, they soon ended up dumped everywhere.  Eventually, just as they came they seemed to disappear almost overnight, and its quite a rarity to see them now.  Bath is not a place for the faint hearted to cycle.  Not because of the traffic, but the hills.  There are some excellent hills in Bath if you enjoy cycling up and down hills.

Bath's The Paragon is a long curved street of terraced housing built at the bottom of Lansdown Hill.  As you can see, the houses on the upward slope are built at a different level to those on the lower level.  The ground drops away considerably behind them, to Walcott and as a result the lower side of the street has rooms that like cellars are below road level and yet still enjoy views over their neighbour's rooftops from their rear elevations.

I was up early again this morning.  The conditions are delightful for early morning photography and a bit of a walk just at present.  A balmy 18C at 5:30am meant that I was able to enjoy wandering around in a T shirt looking for things to photograph at golden hour, without getting too hot.

The nightclubs had closed by then, but there were a few revellers still making their way home, some more than a little the worse for wear.  A group of 3 still fairly lively lads I met elsewhere on my journey laughingly described me as the Geezer with the camera, but were keen not to be photographed.  I'm assuming that they were clubbers and not the local burglars on their way home after a night of easy pickings, everyone having left their windows open to try to let in some cooler air.
