Caldera

We're at Springbrook in SE Queensland for a couple of days, roughly a 2 hour drive from home. The main photo is a view across the caldera (collapsed dome) of the ancient and eroded Tweed Volcano. We are standing on the northern rim of the caldera, looking south to the prominent peak of Wollumbin (Mt Warning) which is the remnant of the central vent of the volcano. In the distance, 40 km away, is the southern rim of the caldera. There is lots more information on this webpage. The extra gives a panoramic view of the caldera.
