Lockdown Day 1

Really struggling for a blip today, so roamed the house, and remembered this piece of weaving I did a very long time ago, in Taos, New Mexico.  I attended a 3-day weaving class, and had the best time.

The loom was a "walking" Navajo loom (i.e. you sat at it and walked on the treadles to raise and lower the shafts.  The yarn was homespun Churro Navajo yarn, hand died, and in the most sumptuous colours.  We were only allowed to choose three colours out of a palette of hundreds.  I chose these colours because they are the colours of New Mexico and also give a nod to the colours of the Australian outback.

Seems like another life.  I remember I seriously thought about importing that special loom, but the freight was prohibitive, and the looms weren't cheap either - being hand crafted.  Unfortunately I don't weave any more; the hands can barely manage to knit, so picking up yarn and threading a loom is just a step too far.

I've gone quite nostalgic - it was a wonderful trip.
