MIQ

I snapped this photo as we walked from the bus stop to the Olympics Fan Zone, just in case.  Just as well I did, as I didn’t have another opportunity to take a blip all day.

These two lions guard the entrance to the Grand Mercure Hotel, which is used as an MIQ (Managed Isolation and Quarantine) facility in central Auckland.  Almost everyone coming into the country, including from Australia at the moment, as the travel bubble has burst because of the clusters in Sydney and Melbourne, must go into Managed Isolation (if they have no symptoms) or Quarantine (if they have symptoms or are otherwise considered high risk) for 14 days.  If a person becomes symptomatic during the 14 days, they are transferred to a Quarantine facility. Before they can leave the facility a final health check is done to ensure they have no Covid-19 symptoms; a temperature below 38deg Celsius; and a negative test.

It’s certainly helped to keep New Zealand relatively Covid-free.
