AOG - Closing Ceremony

The Press Pool had a wonderful surprise today when it came time for the AOG Closing Ceremonies.  It had been widely speculated that Team Hummie would play a lead role today but in a surprising turn of events, it was a member of Team Monarch Caterpillar who took Center Stage.  As the ceremonies were about to kick off, he was observed doing a perfect J-Hanging pose (see Extra) quite some distance from the Milkweed Stadium where he'd earlier competed in Milkweed Munching.  Then, as the music (compliments of the Dog Day Cicada Chorus) built to a crescendo, he shed his striped costume and revealed his new form!

A breathtaking show that had many in the stadium moved to tears.  I was able to sneak a few quick shots while he was still showing the outlines of future antennae, wings and eyes, before he enclosed everything in his shiny green orb.  What a show!

Over the coming days, your Intrepid Reporter and many of her fellow reporters around the globe will be catching up with some of the AOG Olympians to interview them and fill in some of their personal stories.  You'll be able to keep up with all stories by searching the tag #aog21post  (reporters, take note!)  Meanwhile, today's closing events can all be seen HERE - be sure to check back throughout the evening.

To all my fellow reporters - thank you for playing along.  To my fellow judge, Wildwood, thank you for your tireless efforts in keeping abreast of AOG events around the world.  And to all the fans...stay tuned for the 2022 Winter AOG which will coincide with the 2022 Olympics in Beijing!  To everyone who has stopped by, thanks for cheering us on and I hope you've enjoyed the moments of silliness and whimsy as much as I have.

And now, I am off to drink the first dose of my noxious cocktail in preparation for tomorrow's colonoscopy.  And I can only dream of dark chocolate with nuts today...
