Views from Brookwood Military Cemetery

Just another example of how we never seem to get around to visit places on your doorstep.  I've lived just a 15minute drive away from the Brookwood Cemetery for nearly 30 years.  I visited the renown Victorian part of the cemetery before, but this is the first time I've ventured into the military part ... what an eye opener.

The cemetery is mostly under the care of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), and holds WW1 and WW2 graves and monuments to those with no known grave. It is the largest Commonwealth war cemetery in the UK with over 5500 graves organised in plots by country. It also contains the Brookwood American Cemetery maintained by the American Battle Monuments Commission, and an "New Cemetery" plot for Chelsea Pensioners since 1962.

It was interesting to see the different styles of grave markers in the beautifully maintained grounds. Even more interesting were lesser maintained areas interspersed between the main plots containing "normal" graves, some relatively recent and possibly family plots within the original cemetery.
