Ameland

There are options to be transported from Terschelling to Ameland with a clipper, but this is shockingly expensive. It is not a ferry, but a private organization that provides this sailing trip. We crossed the Waddensea to the mainland last night with a regular ferry and this morning cycled across the mainland to Holwerd to join a long, long line of cyclists wanting to get on board of the ferry to Ameland. We didn't fit in and had to wait for the next.
The next boat we were stood at the railing of the boat with our noses towards the sea, protecting ourselves against possible infection with the corona virus. Too many people.

We cycled to the lighthouse via all villages and cycled to the last village on the opposite side of the island where we will spend the night.

The island has a length of 25 kilometres and a maximum width of approximately 5 kilometres and is mainly made up of sand dunes and has beautiful natural forests. There are four small villages and there are farms and farmlands.

I thought that I would like Ameland, like I do like Terschelling or Vlieland, because I have been here in my youth, but I don't. The cycle path through the dunes is straight and the the main road which connects the villages too. So, in terms of attractiveness, Ameland resembles Texel.
