Stranger in a strange Land?

Or - so it feels.  I gave myself the day off and went to the Ice-cream Parlour for lunch.  They frequently have a choice of six soups. NICE THICK, filling ones you can not quite pile up.  :¬) VERY filling.  Thence for a toddle around to the "Vapery" and the health food shop.  Got  few paces clocked up.  I MIGHT try and catch up - BUT - I'll probably require a memory assistant.
For instance - within Market Square alone I can't think of much, if ANY which date to prior to our arrival here in 1978.
For instance, in this shot, "we" were in the left hand shop as J. G. Johnstone, Jeweller.  He started the business in 1922 and when we left/retired there was no one interested in its continuity.
Next door I remember as an Estate Agent's, but can't remember what preceded it.  I seem to remember at least one change of hands with no change of use.
I've no idea what preceded the Health Store but remember its predecessor almost at the other end of town.
As I returned to the car I also noticed that "Edinburgh Woollen Mill" is no longer.

After further investigation - WHY Edinburgh? :¬O ?
Jedburgh & Moffat are as close as they get to Edinburgh.

"Edinburgh Woollen Mill is a Carlisle-based retailer specialising in clothing, along with interests in homewares and destination shopping for tourists. It is wholly owned by the Dubai-based British billionaire Philip Day, and the non-executive chairman is John Herring."

Grumble alert:-
Am I the only one who refuses free trials on anything which in turn refuses to tell me what it'll cost AFTER the free trial is over?
