Auditioning for Top Gun 3

Its been raining for most of the day so far, so outdoor photographic opportunities look limited.  So .... I thought it would be worth opening up the dressing up box and having another go at a natural light self-portrait.  Lord knows when they are going to get around to releasing Top Gun 2 - it was expected last year but got delayed by the pandemic.  Its bound to be no where near as good and quotable as the original, but just in case they get around to Top Gun 3 .....

I watched a zoom presentation given by photographer Kevin Wilson last night and was completely bowled over by his work.  He mentioned that he takes most of his pictures with natural light and a reflector, so in theory it should be possible to try to adapt some parts of his style.  In practice it is much, much more difficult than that, but there is plenty to learn and enjoy studying his work.

I'm trying to learn a bit more about lighting at the moment, and so its worth my recording that this is a short lighting shot which makes use of split lighting.  That is to say, the dark part of the face is angled toward the camera, while the well-lit part is angled away (that's the short lighting bit) and the reflected light coming from the left of shot makes it a split lighting situation.
