Bone and stone

The haar is still full on and there’s nothing to see out the window. Fuelled by a full cooked breakfast we head off to see the delights of Sanday.

- Quoyness chambered tomb (extra) which has to be crawled into
- Lettan radar station (extra), no now a husk of concrete used by sheep as a shelter
- Lady village store for cheese and oat cakes)
- Whitemill bay (extra) where we walk along a sandy beach, past a deserted crofting village, along an overgrown inland track
- Holms of Ire (featured) reachable only at low tide, scrambling over seaweed strewn stones along a chain of cairn-marked islands.

The ferry is delayed. When it does arrive they squash us all in and we plod back across the calm sea. The haar has dispersed, and there are fine views in every direction.

A carry out from Lucano - two spinach dishes - and then back to Stromness.
