Thirlestane Castle

It seems to be taking longer and longer to get the van packed but eventually we were off for the 1.5 hour drive over the Border. Our site is near Lauder, a border town we have only driven through.

We had a walk in the grounds near the castle which is surrounded by trees so not easily seen. Katy and Colin had arrived early and went for a guided tour. They came round to our van to have tea and cake then drinks, provided by Mr C. Well I provided the cake.

It’s been a wonderfully sunny day here so we sat outside till it was time for dinner. By then the sun had gone down and it was cooler. (Katy has a bad cough so we went to our own vans. They had stayed with friends in Huddersfield at the weekend. He had a cough but had tested negative).

Friend Chris in the village has tested positive for Covid. She had a bad cold and felt a bit flu-y a few days ago and had a negative test but today’s was positive. She’s had both jabs and is tired but not desperately unwell. She and Ailie were staying in a hotel in the Lakes last week and ate out in Keswick etc. Ailie doesn’t have to isolate unless she gets a positive test. Fortunately we have not seen either for a while and we’ll be keeping clear. It’s all so close now.
