Welcome To House Of Dun

Today’s Blipfoto shows Pat taking her leave of Miss Violet Jacob after being shown round the House of Dun; an NTS property situated about 5 miles to the West of Montrose.

We had made an appointment to see Miss Jacob through the National Trust of Scotland website. Despite leaving in good time we arrived to be greeted by Miss Jacob’s housekeeper with a minute to spare.

We were given a wonderful guided tour around the house and marvelled at the restoration work carried out on The House and Garden.

I have attached to extra photos of the stunning plasterwork carried out in the main salon.  In truth I had taken some 28 photos of the house and grounds.

The final exit shows the magnificent horse drawn hearse displayed in the new location for the Angus Folk Museum.

After our tour through the house we walked through the gardens talking to several of the other guests.

Thereafter our picnic we followed the route of Lady Augusta through the wooded garden and stream eventually arriving at the attached cemetery.

After our direct journey in the morning we returned via Montrose, Lunan and Arbroath before journeying along the coast via Carnoustie, Barrie, Monifeith and Broughty Ferry to Dundee.

The weather was blue sky all day.

Some 50 years ago I had dined in the House of Dun with my girlfriend of the time also called Pat!
