Black Sunflower

My morning was spent at Swaddywell Pit, looking at proposals for habitat improvements for Grizzled and Dingy Skipper butterflies with the local Butterfly Conservation manager and the reserve manager. A very useful meeting, with the opportunity to create new areas of bare ground where wood small-reed is becoming a bit too dominant. And after the meeting there was coffee and cake, as well as a chance to chat to some of the regular volunteers.

The afternoon was spent finding new species to add to our garden list, mostly galls and leaf miners. I was also rather taken by the developing heads on our self-seeded sunflowers -  we're going to a have a good crop of black sunflower seeds!
